^x indicates that i am unsure about a given line.
¹ the word zukkyun is an onomatopoeia used to represent the sound of the heart when falling in love. i tend to liken it to the sound of an arrow striking the heart.
² more literally: tomorrow is the school's opening ceremony. the word shigyoushiki means 'opening ceremony (of the school term)'.
³ i've chosen to use the pronoun she here, even though the pronoun aitsu refers generally to 'that person', because i believe that the lyrics are referring to the person who the love interest chose over the narrator (the narrator is female). this is only an assumption, and is perhaps even heteronormative of me, but i've chosen she also because i like how it sounds in context.
⁴ the repeated niku, niku, niku which leads into nikurashii (terrible) sounds like 'meat, meat, meat'. this is a fun technique we'll see again shortly.
⁵ more literally: i'm a girl who goes on adventures.
⁶ more literally: i'm a loving high teen (as in, a person in their later teenage years who loves someone).
⁷ the word hatsumei does have a definition 'intelligent; clever; smart', however it is considered a dated term, and nowadays generally it means 'invention'. it is possible, then, that here hatsumei kiddo means something like 'a kid who is an inventor'.
⁸ the repeated suki, suki, suki which leads into sukidarake (full of holes) sounds like 'love you, love you, love you'.
⁹ the added da ne on this line implies that the narrator believes that the listener already knows what is being said to be true, or is rhetorically seeking affirmation.
¹⁰ the stroke which nousocchuu is referring to is a stroke of the brain.
¹¹ the word yuigahama is the name of a beach.
¹² 'all year round' would be more accurate, but with all year this section rhymes rather convincingly, which was an opportunity i was not going to pass up.
¹³ the added da yo on this line implies that the narrator is asserting something to be true.
